I Awoke In a Fog
Day Ten. Back to East Coast humidity, I guess -- very foggy in the Pennsylvania mountains.
Reversing course from the trip out, so I got to see some of what I had missed.
We followed the river up from Connellsville to Sand Patch at the summit of the Alleghenies -- only a couple of thousand feet above sea level but still an impressive grade from Cumberland. This time we were going downhill. CSX is replacing all of the old wooden ties with concrete along this very remote area.
One enters Cumberland through "The Narrows" -- a pretty valley between two large promontories.
CSX busy once again in the Cumberland yards.
Got some good pictures of Harper's Ferry on the way out, so I tried one with my "dramatic" camera filter this time.
And that's the end of the trip! Overall, a pretty neat way to see a lot of the country in a short time. Amtrak did a good job given their poverty.
I would do it again. There's always the Super Chief.
