Bob's Transcontinental
It's a bucket list item: take a train across country and back. So here I am, in room 13 of a Superliner two-decker on Amtrak Train 29, The Capitol Limited, headed to Chicago and beyond.
It occurs to me that since it's heading away from the Capitol, the train's name does not fit. But we won't quibble.
And off to a great start! Amtrak's long-distance trains are known for their chronic lateness. Begging and borrowing track from various freight railroads, they are subject to frequent delays. And this train, scheduled to depart at 4:05PM, is leaing the station at 4:30.
Amtrak does a decent job of welcoming its sleeping car passengers. Here's me in the lounge at the beginning of my adventure.
