Last Breakfast on the Empire Builder

The climate on the west side of the Cascades changes again to what we think of as typical Pac Northwest – wet, rainy, with dense stands of Douglas fir.

About 15 minutes of breakfast was in the dark as we went through the Cascades Tunnel -- longest on the Amtrak system I am told, and quite an impressive bore. Hard to get good pictures of that.

The aforementioned dense stands of trees also make photography challenging but one catches glimpses of the Skykomish River that we are following down to Puget Sound.

And here is Puget Sound -- prettier than it looks in the photo, but on the wrong side of the train.
